REQUIREMENTS FOR RECOGNITION
To be recognised as an MHFA Champion Community, Local Councils are required to demonstrate their LGA’s activity and achievements for each of the six components of the MHFA Champion Communities Program recognition criteria.
MHFA Champion Community applications must be submitted by a Local Council representative.
INFORMATION FOR LOCAL COUNCIL
The MHFA Champion Communities Program recognises the important role of Local Council in embedding Mental Health First Aid training in the community and requires:
Local Council to play a central role in driving and supporting their local community’s approach to Mental Health First Aid training
Local Council to partner and collaborate with community organisations, groups and individuals in the development and implementation of their local community’s Mental Health First Aid training strategy.
INFORMATION FOR COMMUNITIES
Community members such as accredited Mental Health First Aid Instructors, organisations or community groups are fundamental to an integrated and sustainable approach to Mental Health First Aid training within their local community.
Community members who are interested in, planning, or already implementing Mental Health First Aid training within their local community are encouraged to connect with their Local Council to discuss Mental Health First Aid in their area and explore the MHFA Champion Communities Program.

The MHFA Champion Communities Program Guide that supports communities to implement Mental Health First Aid training in the community according to best practice and to apply for recognition.
Support and guidance from the MHFA Community Engagement Team regarding the delivery of Mental Health First Aid training in your local community and information about the application process.
