Courses for the Public

Face-to-face courses

Face-to-face training is delivered by an Accredited Mental Health First Aid Instructor. You can find a course via our Courses Calendar, or you can contact an instructor directly to arrange training.

Available courses

Standard* - 12-hour course for adults helping other adults (suitable for delivery within communities and workplaces)

Youth* - 14-hour course for adults helping adolescents (suitable for teachers, parents, coaches etc.)

Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander* - 14-hour course for adults helping an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Person

teen - 3 classroom based sessions for adolescents helping their peers (suitable for delivery in schools and groups)

Older Person* - 12-hour course for adults helping an older person (suitable for aged care workers and family members)

Chinese* - 12-hour course Standard MHFA Course delivered in traditional or simplified Chinese

Vietnamese* - 12-hour course Standard MHFA Course delivered in Vietnamese

* Participants who complete any of these courses are eligible to become Accredited MHFAiders.

Course delivery

Courses can be delivered as either;

  • A 2-day training package OR
  • As 4 separate sessions of 3-4 hours each delivered over 4 days.
  • You can discuss the most convenient mode of delivery with your instructor.

    Specialised MHFA Training

    MHFA for the Suicidal Person - half-day specialised training on how to offer mental health first aid to someone experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours.

    Blended Courses

    Increased flexibility in the delivery of training.

    Designed for increased flexibility in the delivery of training, a Blended Mental Health First Aid Course is a combination of online (eLearning) and a half day of follow-on face-to-face training. The face-to-face component must be done within 3 months of completing the eLearning component.

    Please read the full details on signing up for Blended Courses to ensure that you will be able to complete the face-to-face training within three months.

    Which MHFA courses are Blended?

    At this time, the following courses are delivered via the blended format:

    Blended MHFA for the Workplace ($150 plus Instructor fee for face-to-face session)

    Blended MHFA in the Pharmacy ($150 plus Instructor fee for face-to-face session)

    Blended MHFA for Tertiary Students ($50 plus Instructor fee for face-to-face session)

    MHFAider Accreditation

    After completing any 12-14 hour MHFA course (these are marked with an *), participants are eligible to complete a short 20 question online Accreditation Assessment in order to receive a Mental Health First Aider Certificate of Accreditation valid for 3 years. Accredited Mental Health First Aiders are eligible to be appointed as Mental Health First Aid Officers in the workplace. Read all about the MHFAider Program.

    eLearning Courses

    These courses are delivered online, either as a standalone course or as a component of a blended course. Our eLearning courses involve audio, video, case scenarios and multiple choice quizzes to keep you engaged.

    Courses will take 6-8 hours to complete and participants have 12 months access to our self-paced course online via our Moodle LMS. You can register for each course directly on the eLearning page, or by clicking on one of the links below.
