Update - 4 April 2019: Due to overwhelming interest, the funding for the free eLearning component of our MHFA for Tertiary Students course has run out earlier than expected.
Over the last two years, almost 13,000 students have been funded to complete the MHFA tertiary eLearning course.
Students that have already enrolled in the eLearning course will not be affected by this change. New enrolments will either need to be paid for individually by students ($50.00 plus shipping) or tertiary institutions can purchase vouchers and supply students with a voucher code to complete the course. Bulk enrolments voucher codes are available through our shop and are valid for 12 months.
This is the eLearning component of the Blended Mental Health First Aid Course for Tertiary Students, which teaches how to assist a fellow student developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. It is recommended that you first organise an Instructor to complete the follow-up face-to-face component (an additional cost) before you commence the eLearning component, as you will need to complete the face-to-face within 3 months after completing the eLearning.

How do I enrol with a voucher code?
If you wish to use a voucher, click the apply button and you may enter your voucher after selecting 'other' in all the pre-enrollment questions. Make sure if you copy and paste your voucher code that there is no white-space when you paste it. If there is, the code will be rejected.
This is the eLearning component of the Blended Mental Health First Aid Course for Tertiary Students. It is completed in a Blended format, combining eLearning plus a follow-up half day face-to-face session. This component is self-paced and takes about 6-8 hours to complete. Course participants receive a 4th Edition Standard MHFA Manual in the mail, and an electronic proof of completion document (PDF) after they finish the eLearning.
After successful completion of the eLearning component, you are eligible to go on to seek MHFAider Accreditation. If you wish to do this it is recommended that you first organise an Instructor to complete the follow-up face-to-face component before you commence the eLearning component, as you will need to complete the face-to-face within 3 months after completing the eLearning. What the course covers
The course teaches tertiary students how to assist a peer who is developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, using case-studies, videos and resources tailored to their learning needs. The mental health first aid skills learnt can be applied to help any adult.
Developing mental health problems covered:
- Anxiety problems
- Eating disorders
- Substance use problems
Mental health crises covered:
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- Non-suicidal self-injury
- Panic attacks
- Traumatic events
- Severe psychotic states
- Acute effects from alcohol or other drug use
- Aggressive behaviours.
Participants will learn the signs and symptoms of these mental health problems, where and how to get help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.

Interested in the MHFAider Accreditation?
After successful completion of the eLearning component you are eligible to attend a 4 hour face-to-face course and then attempt the MHFAider exam. If you successfully pass, you will gain a MHFAider accreditation valid for 3 years.

STEP 2. Follow the link in the auto generated email we send, set your password and then hit the green APPLY button on the eLearning course page.

1. Enter your course information if you are eligible for the subsidised course or 2. Enter other in each field to use a voucher. or enter in your payment information and then your shipping information. You will receive an order number from us when complete.
STEP 4. We will post you a package with a 4th Edition Standard MHFA Manual. This typically takes 3 days to capital cities and up to 10 days in regional areas. Electronic versions of the manual are not available.
STEP 5. You can begin with the online pre-quiz right away and you have online access to a PDF version of the MHFA Manual so you can get started right away while you wait for the manuals to arrive. You need to refer to them in order to complete the curriculum.
