The MHFA Instructor Training courses are held throughout Australia and can also be conducted for an organisation by negotiation with Mental Health First Aid Australia.
What is the Older Person MHFA Instructor Training Course?
This intensive 5-day course, conducted by two trainers, accredits successful applicants to conduct the 12-hour Older Person MHFA course. Suitably experienced Standard, Youth, and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander MHFA Instructors are eligible to attend first 2.5 days of this course if they have already delivered 3 full MHFA courses in their existing accreditation(s).
Cost and what is included
This 5-day course runs 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday. The cost is $3,550. This covers tuition, catering, the Older Person's Instructor’s Kit and ongoing support from the MHFA team. The kit contains the MHFA teaching materials such as the USB with PowerPoint slides and film clips, and teaching notes.
MHFA Instructors are not employed by the MHFA Program. All accredited MHFA Instructors sign an agreement to honour the copyright of all materials and to teach the 12-hour curriculum as written, without amendments to ensure that course participants get the benefits that have been shown in evaluation trials. MHFA Instructors are responsible for organising and conducting their own courses and setting their own fees.
After delivering 3 Older Person MHFA Courses, suitably experienced Older Person MHFA Instructors can up-skill to deliver:
- 12-hour Standard MHFA, 14-hour Youth MHFA, and 14-hour Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander MHFA (by attending the first 3-days of the respective Instructor Training Course)
- teen MHFA (by attending the full 4-days of the teen MHFA Instructor Training Course).
