Bio

AJ is of Wiradjuri / Watjobuluk background. He has 30 years experience in the health, community services and education sectors within Victoria and NSW.

He is a member of the Stolen Generation who is happy to share his experiences.

AJ is accredited to deliver the STANDARD ADULT Edition 4, YOUTH Edition 4, TEEN Year 7-9 & TEEN 10-12, ID, and ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER Edition 3 courses. AJ can also deliver all Blended courses, as well as the tailored courses for nursing and medical student, MHFA for the Suicidal Person and MHFA for Gambling Problems. AJ can also deliver the new 4 hour STANDARD & YOUTH & ABORIGINAL MHFA REFRESHER courses. As of April 2018, AJ has been delivering the 4 hour 'Aboriginal Lets talk about Suicide' course.

AJ has qualifications in social work, nursing, career counselling, disability work, community work & mental health, youth work, AOD and Aboriginal primary health care, with an interest in Aboriginal mental health. He is a qualified AASW Mental Health Social Worker and registered Medicare provider.

From 2010-2015- AJ worked within the national AMHFA program across the 3 organisations in which it was housed (University of Newcastle, Orygen Youth Health & Metal Health Fist Aid Australia).

As of December 2018, AJ has facilitated over 436 MHFA courses across all states and territories of Australia.

In 2012, AJ won the NSW Mental Health Matters Award for 'Indigenous social and emotional wellbeing' for delivery of 30 AMHFA courses across NSW rural and remote communities. In 2013, he was a finalist in the 2013 SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARDS.

AJ was awarded the EMERGING VICTORIAN INDIGENOUS LEADER AWARD 2016.

AJ is able to travel Australia wide provided costs are met. All trainings gain traditional owner endorsement.

AJ has current working with children checks for WA, NSW, Victoria, Queensland & Northern Territory.
