Bec is passionate about preventative health, with a particular focus on mental health and physical activity. After a 12 year career in the public service, Bec has taken extended leave to pursue her passion of empowering people, communities and organisations to be the best version of themselves. Through her business, Rising Kind, Bec offers Mental Health First Aid Training, consultancy services, Metafit sessions and one on one Best You coaching.

Bec has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology and Sociology and graduated with First Class Honours in Sociology in 2006, before embarking on a public service career in 2007. Bec's career has included policy, project and client and people management roles at the Australian Bureau of Statistics; Sport and Recreation Tasmania; the Tasmanian Institute of Sport; the Local Government Division of DPAC; and most recently the Mental Health, Alcohol & Drug Directorate in the Department of Health. Bec is also a qualified personal trainer and group exercise leader.

Bec has lived in Glenorchy all her life and is driven to make her municipality the best it can be, including improving health outcomes. In January 2018 Bec was elected as an Alderman on the Glenorchy City Council and she is Chair of the Council’s Healthy Communities Advisory Committee.

Bec loves spending time with her husband Ross and Kelsey the Kelpie, wine tasting, the gym, dressing up for a day out at the races or fundraising ball, op shopping and jigsaw puzzles. She lives by the values of activism, authenticity, courage, determination, empowerment and attention to detail and has a strong belief in fairness and equity. Bec is passionate about helping to inspire and empower people to be the best versions of themselves, physically and mentally.

Bec strongly believes the Mental Health First Aid course not only increases understanding and changes attitudes about mental health problems, but can empower people to change and save lives. In delivering the course Bec is genuine, approachable and understanding of different backgrounds and views. She enjoys hearing about and learning from participants' ideas and experiences and using these learnings to make the course relevant and empowering.

Bec offers courses that are open to all and is also available to deliver in-house sessions for workplaces, community groups or sporting clubs, with the delivery format tailored to the needs of the organisation or group.
