I commenced my Career as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse in the UK in 1981, where my positions in the main have been community based. In 1988 I migrated to Australia ,living and working initially in Melbourne for almost ten years, where I was fortunate to be involved in the inception of a new concept of care as a Unit Manager in a community based facility for Older person Mental Health (early dementia) In 1997 I moved to the Sunshine Coast Queensland . My roles in Queensland Health have been in community Case Management ,and Acute Mental Health Care. In 2011 I undertook a role as a Suicide Prevention Project Officer for the Sunshine Coast ,as part of a state wide project . I set up a sole trader mobile training service 'Listen Connect Care, as a platform to enable me to continue offering and delivering Mental Health First Aid.
I wish to increase awareness of the important role Mental Health Literacy has in enhancing an understanding and capacity to respond in providing someone in crisis,or developing a mental health problem ,Mental illness ,or is in a Mental health crisis, either in a workplace or in the wider community.
I also develop and offer' Early Detection in Mental Health and Suicide Prevention' workshops which can be delivered in a group setting and workplace.
I am a member of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses and a Credentialed Mental Health Nurse. I have acquired my MHFA Principle Master Instructor Status. I believe Mental Health First Aid has a very positive role to play in the Early detection and Intervention of Suicide Prevention and Mental illness including breaking down stigma barriers. If any community groups, workplaces or service provider groups are interested in undertaking the Adult Standard ,Adult Youth MHFA training course , Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person , or MHFA for Gambling Problems, I welcome you to contact me.
