Be heard, feel valued, become inspired to BE that positive difference to others.

My whole approach to Mental Health First Aid training is about letting people know they are heard and valued so that they feel inspired to step-up and BE the difference in the life of anyone experiencing mental health issues.

Very much a people person, I’ve found a real sense of purpose for my caring nature in my work as an NDIS Business Manger with Flourish Australia, who are innovators in person-led mental health recovery. I take a genuine interest in the way each person I meet experiences life and that authentic curiosity has a way of building connections quickly with participants in my Mental Health First Aid training.

When you connect with your facilitator, it creates a comfortable space for speaking freely and asking questions without feeling awkward. This is fertile ground for effective learning. Together, active participants are guided into practical understanding of what mental health means. Through sharing and role play they learn to recognise mental distress and walk-out ways of responding appropriately and effectively in everyday situations. My down-to-earth methods draw on a working knowledge of psycho-social disability and my background of providing frontline mental health supports over more than 19 years.

Because I relate easily with many and varied audiences, I’m regularly invited to speak on matters of mental health at conferences as well as to organisations and regional communities. Whether I’m delivering a talk or training module, my goal is always for the experience to be engaging and uplifting. I want people to leave feeling driven to make a difference in their workplace, the local community, even their own life or wherever mental health issues are encountered.

Becoming an accredited Mental Health First Aid facilitator has opened more pathways for me to empower people to offer compassionate and informed support, wherever they are planted.
