Ric has had extensive life experience including a stint in the Army when younger and 3 years in Papua New Guinea as a training officer for the Development Bank. His early working years were spent in the finance and banking industry. Later on Ric became a partner in a 3 partner rural accounting firm providing advice and taxation expertise to a diverse range of clients. His role as an accountant came to an abrupt end as the result of a severe breakdown in 1998 and his subsequent diagnosis with bipolar disorder.

Since that time, Ric has worked in web development, been a Community Visitor in the Mental Health stream in Victoria for 3 years and involved in a number of areas of mental health work. He is the Vice President of Ride4Life Inc (, who run motorcycle rides promoting awareness of depression and suicide prevention. He is also on the Loddon Shire Healthy Minds Committee and was a founding member. Ric is passionate about the need for mental health first aid and providing knowledge to the community at large.

Ric may not have formal qualifications in mental health, but he has lived with a mental health issue for many years. This provides a personal insight into the issues and struggles of people with mental health problems. Ric approaches the issue of mental health first aid with the empathy and understanding only available to someone who has been through, and continues to go through, the day to day experience.

Please feel free to phone Ric and discuss your course needs and any queries you may have.
