Reconciliation Week 2019 | Mental Health First Aid
30/05/2019

GROUNDED IN TRUTH, WALK TOGETHER IN COURAGE

The theme of this week's National Reconciliation Week 2019 is ‘Grounded in Truth: Walk Together with Courage’.

National Reconciliation Week recognises the relationships Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples share with other Australians and continues to build on these relationships. Positive relationships must be grounded in a foundation of truth.

Mental Health First Aid Australia is committed to reconciliation, equality and unity to strengthen our relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community.

We do this by:
• Developing more strategic relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous services to share and promote the messages of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Mental Health First Aid

• Developing policies and protocols to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander instructors and communities to develop Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander MHFA in response to community priorities

• Supporting non-Indigenous instructors and communities to understand and respect some of the cultural strengths and complexities around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Mental Health

• Building the knowledge base and capacity of our MHFA staff to support and empower Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander initiatives

• Using Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander art and storytelling to explore and communicate mental health messages in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander MHFA and mainstream communications
